9co announces single-chip timing signal generator for SONET/SDH network elements

March 4, 2003 --9co, a provider of synchronization and timing solutions for switch and access products, today announced its Stratum 3/3E SCS3015 device, the newest addition in its series of single-chip solutions (SCS). The low-cost SCS3015 device features a full-function timing signal generator (TSG) with BITS output and greatly simplifies timing design for SONET/SDH network elements, such as routers and ATM switches.

Implemented within Actel's flash-based APA150 ProASIC Plus FPGA, the new SCS3015 device takes advantage of Actel's unique security features, single-chip form factor and exceptionally low jitter and phase noise performance. As a result, the SCS3015 solution is able to offer better than five times lower jitter performance than competitive products, enabling reliable application designs, particularly when high downstream frequencies are involved.

The SCS3015 device is fully compliant with Telcordia GR-1244-Core, GR-253-Core and ITU-T-G813 standards, and features completely hit-less reference switching and exceptionally low jitter performance. Each device accepts two reference inputs and provides four synchronized outputs one with user selectable frequency, one at 8 KHz, one multi-frame sync at 2 KHz and a BITS clock at 1.544 MHz or 2.048 MHz. Control is via simple direct hardware I/O. The devices support synchronized, holdover and free run modes and may be run in master/slave pairs for high reliability.

Prototype quantities of 9co's Stratum 3/3E SCS3015 single-chip timing signal generator are expected to be available in mid-April with production quantities available in early May. Volume pricing for the new device is expected to be below $100 in 1,000 unit quantities. In addition to the SCS3015 devices, 9co can also provide the associated oscillators. A 2x2 module that includes the precision oscillators and a complete evaluation board are also available.

Headquartered in Naperville, IL, and founded in February 2000, 9co provides telecommunications synchronization and timing solutions for next generation core/edge switch and access platform products.
