Micrel releases 10.7-Gbit/sec universal logic gate and data-to-clock resynchronizer for communications applications

14 April 2003 San Jose, CA Lightwave -- Micrel Semiconductor is introducing two precision logic devices, the SY85051U 10.7-Gbit/sec logic gate and SY85052U data-to-clock resynchronizer.

Designed using Micrel's Silicon Germanium process technology to meet the most stringent jitter and skew requirements for SONET/SDH OC-3 to OC-768 communications systems, the SY85051/2 are equally suitable for demanding test and measurement applications. The unique internal termination design included in their differential inputs allows them to easily interface to different logic standards, both AC- and DC-coupled, without any external resistor-bias and termination networks. This results in a clean, stub-free, low jitter interface solution.

The SY58052U is a precision, data-to-clock resynchronizer with a guaranteed maximum data or clock throughput of 10.7 Gbits/sec or 7 GHz, respectively. The SY58052U accepts a serial data input, and generates a CML output data, which is synchronized to the rising edge of the input reference clock. It is optimized for communications applications, and is an ideal solution for backplane retiming or retiming after the data passes through long trace lengths.

The SY58051U is a low jitter logic gate with the same ultra-fast data and clock throughput as the SY58052U. It is capable of producing any logic functions of two Boolean variables, such as AND, NAND, OR, NOR, DELAY or NEGATION; it can also be configured as a 2:1 multiplexer.

Both precision logic devices have been released to production, and pricing starts at $8.33 (1,000-piece suggested resale). This family is offered in a small (3x3mm) 16-pin MLF package and guaranteed over the -40°C to +85 °C industrial temperature range. The devices operate from a 2.5V or 3.3V supply.
