Anritsu demonstrates conformance test system for 10 GbE receivers

29 April 2003 Richardson, TX Lightwave--Anritsu Co. is introducing a stressed receiver conformance test system that characterizes and verifies 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) optical receivers according to the IEEE 802.3ae. Comprised of a wideband optical receiver, CDR (clock data recovery), reference transmitter, and E/O plus O/E converter, the test system conducts precise stressed eye tests so that manufacturers of 10 GbE LAN and WAN receivers can reliably analyze the performance of their products during development and production.

The test system operates over a frequency range of 2.4 Gbits/sec to 12.5 Gbits/sec and supports the three standard wavelengths - 1550 nm, 1310 nm, and 850 nm. Because it is designed with a reference transmitter, the platform can conduct accurate TDP measurements. Additionally, it can be used to achieve a golden CDR at 10.3125 GHz.

The stressed receiver conformance test system was developed to satisfy industry demand for stressed eye test sets that ensure 10 GbE receivers comply with IEEE 802.3ae. With this platform, developers can simulate a real world, worst-case scenario in the lab and on the production floor. The solution adds jitter and an interfering signal to degrade the eye and create VECP (vertical eye closure penalty). While sweeping jitter across user-designated frequency and amplitude ranges, the test solution monitors bit-error-rate (BER) to ensure that the receivers operate with a BER of less than 10-12, and are compliant with the standard.
