New ADSS drop cable targeted at fiber-to-the-home applications

2 May 2003 Spartanburg, SC Lightwave --Alcoa's AFL Telecommunications announces the release of its new ADSS drop cables, specifically designed for fiber-to-the-subscriber (FTTx) applications.

The unitube drop cables are designed in a smaller cable package for lower fiber counts. The reduced fiber count and round cable technology makes the drop cables an inexpensive alternative to traditional large-diameter cables that often hold more fibers than needed and require more expensive splice enclosures to accommodate the cable. The drop cable uses less expensive closures and hardware, opening the door to installers to deploy FTTx where it was cost-prohibitive before. The cable is available in two versions that can hold up to 6 and 12 fibers each. It accommodates self-supporting, lashed, and conduit applications.

"Our ADSS Drop Cable is easy to install with low-cost hardware and facilitates multiple drops from a single closure," said Product Manager James Culp. "With this cable, municipalities, independent telephone companies, and community developers can install FTTx systems for their customers at a fraction of the cost of using traditional cable and hardware."
