Worldwide sales of RAD's TDMoIP circuit emulation ports exceed 10,000

11 July 2003, Tel Aviv--RAD Data Communications has announced that worldwide shipments of its Time Division Multiplexing over Internet Protocol (TDMoIP) E1/T1 and E3/T3 circuit emulation ports have passed 10,000.

TDMoIP technology, which enables TDM traffic to be transmitted transparently over Ethernet, IP and MPLS networks, was developed and introduced to the market by RAD Data Communications.

The applications served by TDMoIP encompass both carrier and enterprise markets and vary from the connection of enterprise PBXs and data equipment over private and public packet networks to service provider circuit emulation services, cellular backhaul, SS7 transport, disaster recovery and other voice, video and data/telemetry applications.

The majority of TDMoIP port shipments have been to North American and European destinations, although the customer base also includes installations in Asia, Oceania and Latin America.

Yoram Holtz, VP Marketing at RAD Data Communications, said, "TDMoIP circuit emulation is gaining traction everywhere, spurred by the growth of Ethernet-based access services and the build-out of Gigabit Ethernet networks."

While legacy data and voice transport are the primary applications for TDMoIP, the enhancement of the IPmux-1 with an Ethernet user port allows it to be deployed commercially for pure Ethernet NTU (Network Termination Unit) applications as well.

"Both incumbent operators and alternative carriers have begun to take an interest in this approach because it enables them to offer managed Ethernet services," Holtz adds. In addition, the IPmux-1 serves as a flexible NTU with both Ethernet and TDM user interfaces.
