August 10, 2004 Norwood, MA-- Analog Devices today introduced 10 serial analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) that bring ultra-compact packaging technology to the high-speed, high accuracy world of optical communications among other applications. These high-bandwidth, multi-channel applications are following the general electronics industry trend toward smaller, more optimized designs.
Featuring a 3 MSPS throughput rate, very low power dissipation (8 mW) and 1 LSB INL - all in a 3mm x 3mm thin small-outline-transistor (TSOT) package - the AD727x family is twice as accurate and 40% smaller than competing devices, while enabling faster loop settling time, according to the company.
"The AD727x serial ADC family is a good example of Analog Devices' dedication to delivering the industry's highest performance data conversion technology within any given critical design constraint," said Mike Britchfield, product line director for precision converters at Analog Devices. "The new AD727X family allows customers to achieve high data throughput, low power consumption and minimal footprint without compromising either throughput or accuracy."
Available in 12-bit, 10-bit and 8-bit resolutions, the AD727x serial ADC family is pin-compatible with Analog Devices' existing line of SOT-23 and MSOP packaged AD747x ADCs, allowing engineers to upgrade their designs to achieve higher throughput rates. The AD727x family operates from a single 2.35-V to 3.6-V power supply and contains a low-noise, wide-bandwidth track/hold amplifier. The conversion process and data acquisition are controlled using chip select (CS) and the serial clock, allowing the devices to interface with microprocessors or digital signal processors (DSPs). The AD727x ADCs experience no pipeline delays and employ an advanced design technique to achieve very low power dissipation of less than 8 mW at throughout rates up to 3 MSPS.
The AD727x family is sampling now and will be in full production in March 2005. The products are priced per unit in 1,000-piece quantities (see table).
