Guadalupe Valley Telecommunications Cooperative deploys ADC OmniReach FTTP equipment

October 6, 2004 Minneapolis--Guadalupe Valley Telecommunications Cooperative (GVTC) has successfully deployed the ADC OmniReach fiber distribution terminal in its fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) network. The Texas-based local-exchange carrier is the largest telephone cooperative in the state, providing voice, video and Internet services to an 11 county area.

"We found the ADC OmniReach fiber distribution terminals to have the most efficient and cost-effective design for our particular network needs," said Randy Lefler, outside plant engineering supervisor for GVTC. "ADC's responsiveness and attention to detail have been second-to-none. They have provided everything we have asked for and made adjustments to fit our operation, giving us increased network performance and faster installation."

OmniReach FTTP infrastructure solutions offer telecommunications service providers flexibility in managing their FTTP equipment, including the expensive central office-based electronics, used to transmit the signals to individual homes. This ability to optimize the infrastructure enables service providers to leverage their investment and quickly generate revenue. The family of OmniReach FTTP products includes fiber distribution terminals, fiber access terminals, passive optical splitter modules, and wavelength division multiplexer modules.

It is estimated that $1.5 - 3.5 billion will be spent annually by telecommunications service providers during the next five years as FTTP networks are deployed in the United States. According to Render Vanderslice & Associates, a research firm that tracks the FTTP market, 128 communities in the United States are providing services using FTTP networks as of May 2004 with states such as California and Texas leading the country in number of deployments.
