AFL Telecommunications intros fusion splicers

November 1, 2004 Franklin, TN -- AFL Telecommunications has released two new fusion splicers. The FSM17S single-fiber fusion splicer and the FSM-50R 12-fiber mass fusion splicer are designed to increase productivity and provide additional flexibility.

The FSM-17S single-fiber fusion splicer is a fixed v-groove fusion splicer. With two versions available, improvements for both include a 35-second tube heater, dual direction monitor, and longer battery life. The real-time arc calibration feature makes field maintenance easier. One version of the FSM-17S includes a fiber holder system, making the splicing process extremely simple for inexperienced technicians.

The FSM-17S is well suited for FTTx applications. Both models attach to the newly redesigned ASW-02 workstation, simplifying field portability.

The FSM-50R 12-fiber mass fusion splicer offers a new "auto load" feature that provides fast and easy placement of fiber holders into the splicers. In addition, the tube heater is greatly improved to shrink a 12-fiber splicer protection sleeve in approximately 45 seconds. Other enhancements include larger-capacity batteries, dual direction monitor, and real-time arc calibration. The FSM-50R attaches to AFL's newly designed ASW-02 aerial workstation.
