Mini fusion splicer targets FTTH market

January 5, 2004 Stockholm -- Future Instrument Fiber Optics AB has released a new handheld mini splicer designed to address the unique splicing needs of today's cost conscious Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) market.

Protected by a hard, steel outer housing, the EFS-150 FTTx mini fusion splicer is a rugged, compact, arc fusion splicer for singlemode and multimode fibers. It has the ability to automatically identify cleave angle offsets and accurately estimate splice losses.

An automatic environmental compensation feature takes into account all of the external splicing factors like humidity, altitude, electrode wear, temperature and more. This unit can log up to 500 individual splicing events, making it the smartest FTTH mini splicer on the market today, say company representatives. Until now, these critical features have only been available on substantially more expensive OSP splicers.

A less than seven-second splicing time combined with an ultra fast heat shrink oven make the EFS-150 one of the fastest mini splicers on the market, contends the company. The Future splicer kit includes fiber holders for easy handling, a precision cleaver, lightweight carrying case, and a field harness for true "hands-free" aerial splicing. A reliable long-life battery pack and charger allow for up to 80 splices with heat shrinking on a single charge.

3SAE Technologies Inc. (Nashville, TN) is the exclusive North American Master Distributor for Future Instrument Fiber Optics AB.
