Hibernia Atlantic picks FutureWei's multi-reach DWDM platform

April 5, 2005 Lynn, MA and Plano, TX -- Hibernia Atlantic has selected and deployed FutureWei Technologies' OptiX BWS1600 Multi-Reach (MR) DWDM platform as part of Hibernia's North American network, to enable the delivery of advanced Ethernet and wavelength services between the U.S. and Europe.

Hibernia Atlantic owns and operates what it calls the fastest network connecting Canada and the U.S. to Europe. The network's redundant rings among Dublin, Manchester, London, New York, Halifax, Montreal, and Boston provide dedicated Ethernet and optical level services, at Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) and 10-Gigabit wavelengths. The company says its advanced, sub-sea network provides U.S. and European carriers and enterprises with a reliable, integrated platform for international communications.

"We selected the FutureWei solution following an intensive technical and commercial evaluation," explains Martin O'Riordan, CTO of Hibernia Atlantic. "This solution provides superb density and flexibility through various interface options, including GbE, which allows us to offer a rich set of services to our customers at a competitive price point."

According to the release, the OptiX BWS1600 MR-DWDM platform economically serves metro, long haul, and ultra-long haul networks at distances greater than 4000 km, leveraging FutureWei's patented "Super WDM" RZ coding technology. The physically dense platform employs universal interface slots with a wide variety of interfaces, while enabling flexible ROADM support with future Wavelength Cross Connect capability and 40Gbit/sec options.

Based in Plano, Texas, FutureWei Technologies is the North American subsidiary of Huawei Technologies, a global vendor of telecommunications systems and network platforms based in Shenzhen, China.
