April 20, 2005 Merrimack, NH -- Metrobility Optical Systems has partnered with Dakota Supply Group, an electrical, communications, and mechanical distributor, to bring Metrobility's high-speed, fiber-optic communications products to customers in eight mid-western states. According to a press release, the relationship will offer Metrobility's product range, supporting high-speed Ethernet, DS3, SONET, fiber channel, and CWDM applications, to over 250 independent telephone companies throughout the region.
"Because much of the existing plant is over 25 years old, it's being replaced by fiber though the U.S. government's Rural Utilities Service grant program. As a result we are seeing a huge build-out of fiber for fiber-to-the-home, fiber-to-the-farm, and fiber-to-the-business," explains Steve Carlson, vice president and group manager of Dakota Supply Group. "Metrobility's products will play an important role, where higher bandwidth requirements and security are driving factors such as distance learning and banking."
Metrobility says its optical access, connectivity, and wavelength multiplexing platforms enable users to integrate and manage legacy and evolving communications technologies in order to support metro Ethernet access networks offering triple play services. The company's standards-based Ethernet platforms support both copper-to-fiber and fiber-to-fiber connectivity.
"Dakota Supply Group brings Metrobility into a region which was previously untapped," remarks Steven Curtis, vice president of worldwide sales for Metrobility. "Their extensive background in the telecommunications industry and expertise in optical transport networks provides the right combination of skills to market the Metrobility product line."
Dakota Supply Group featured Metrobility's products at the March 2005 Minnesota Telecom Alliance show.
