Mahi picks Ample Communications for Ethernet-over-SONET

May 18, 2005 Fremont, CA -- Ample Communications, a provider of communications silicon for wireline network systems, today announced that Mahi Networks, a supplier of optical transport, switching, and aggregation platforms, has chosen Ample's Harrier-24 triple speed Ethernet MAC. According to a press release, Mahi will use the device for its Ethernet-over-SONET applications with enhanced Layer 2 and Layer 3 functionality.

"After looking at other solutions for our Ethernet-over-SONET applications, we selected the Harrier-24 based on its capabilities, dependability, and considerable competitive advantages that it provides for us," explains Kevin Pope, vice president of engineering for Mahi Networks. "The Harrier-24 will be an integral part of a converged packet solution that improves carrier's business models for Ethernet services."

Ample says its Harrier-24 is a 24-port full-rate device featuring a large amount of on-chip packet memory, to enable extended fiber reach with "loss-less" flow control. Using the device, Mahi says its customers will be able to deploy systems at greater distances without experiencing packet loss, enabling maximum deployment flexibility.
