Kaiser Optical Systems develops high throughput grating process

August 15, 2005 Ann Arbor, MI -- Kaiser Optical Systems, a provider of phase holographic (VPH) diffraction gratings, announced that it has developed a proprietary high throughput (HT) process for volume phase holographic gratings for telecom and other applications.

According to the company, the HT process achieves very high levels of film index modulation while maintaining low levels of noise and scatter. The company says the process provides an unmatched combination of high diffraction efficiency, high dispersion, low polarization dependent loss (PDL), and broad spectral bandwidth.

The company says its HT process gratings will enable telecom customers to design more compact, efficient systems. According to the company, the gratings have immediate applicability for reconfigurable add-drop multiplexers (ROADMs) and wavelength selective switches (WSS), as well as for Mux/Demuxes, optical spectrum analyzers, optical channel monitors, and tunable lasers.

The HT gratings are available in customized form factors and dispersions, and can be designed for specific applications.
