ATMC picks APACN for FTTP project

August 30, 2005 Minneapolis, MN -- APA Cables & Networks (APACN) announced that Atlantic Telephone Membership Corporation (ATMC) of Brunswick County, North Carolina has selected APACN's Fiber Scalability Center, a line of OSP cabinets, for a FTTP deployment. ATMC is installing the system to over 10,000 access lines in its service area.

ATMC says it chose the APACN product line because of the platform's "grow-as-you-go" cost design.

"The modularity of the product's design is evidence that APACN understands the unique requirements of the independent telephone provider," explains Larry Clemmons, vice president of network and plant operations for ATMC. "We are deploying FTTP not only for the triple play of voice, video, and data, but because it supports the higher bandwidth that our customers are looking for. With APACN, we could offer that functionality one development at a time, without compromising the integrity of the overall network design."

The platform was provided to ATMC by Power & Telephone Supply Company of Memphis, Tennessee, an independent distributor of material for the telecommunications and cable TV industries. Motorola fiber products were also installed in the deployment.

According to APACN, based on its Fiber Distribution System, each cabinet within its Fiber Scalability Center platform employs field-tested designs to maximize bend radius protection, connector access, ease of cable routing, and physical protection. The company says its fiber management platforms have been designed to meet the full range of Telcordia's telecommunications standards, as well as the unique requirements of FTTP installations for a variety of telephone, television, and municipal networks.

Founded in 1955, ATMC is one of the largest member-owned communications cooperatives in North Carolina, with over 33,000 members and 41,000 access lines. The co-op provides telecommunications services including local telephone, long distance, paging, business communication systems, Cingular wireless, Internet/DSL, and cable television service.
