Allray displays components, design sense at CIOE

September 16, 2005 Zhenjiang, China -- Allray, a provider of active optical devices and components, recently exhibited both a line of original products and examples of its design and manufacturing capabilities at the 7th China International Optoelectronic Exposition (CIOE). The latter capability manifested itself in 10GBase-LX4 transceivers produced in collaboration with BeamExpress, a network equipment supplier based in Sunnyvale, CA and Lausanne, Switzerland.

Allray and BeamExpress collaborated on the LX4 transceiver project for over a year. Allray President Ling Chen said at CIOE that his company has helped to productize and manufacture the BeamExpress design in both X2 and Xenpak form factors. While BeamExpress has touted its work in 1300-nm VCSEL technology, Chen said that the current generation of devices uses conventional lasers.

Chen also showed a 10-Gbit/sec device that Allray has produced based on the design of another collaborator, whose identity Chen declined to reveal. The module can transmit 200 km without regeneration or amplification, he says.

The 10-Gbit/sec design work complements Allray's own development of lower-speed devices. The company is working on an XFP transceiver, but most of its current product line includes lower-speed transceivers, TOSA/ROSAs, and bidirectional devices.

The transceivers include GEPON SFF devices for FTTX applications. Chen said it recently provided these transceivers for China's first commercial, 1,000-home community FTTH project, located in Zhenjiang city, Jiangsu province. In a press release, the company said the recently completed project has been selected as a model for future residential FTTH deployments by the China's National Department of Information and Technology, and by its Department of Construction.
