4-Gbit/sec CWDM SFP transceiver targets MANs

September 28, 2005 Sunnyvale, CA -- Finisar has introduced 4-Gbit/sec CWDM small form factor pluggable (SFP) transceiver for use in metropolitan area networks. The company demonstrated the device at this week's European Conference and Exposition on Optical Communications (ECOC 2005) in Glasgow, Scotland.

The company says the 4-Gbit/sec CWDM SFP transceiver is available in eight wavelengths for data links up to 20 km. According to the company, the transceiver transmits both Gigabit Ethernet and 1x/2x/4x Fibre Channel at temperatures from 0 °C to 70°C. In addition, the transceiver is RoHS-compliant and lead(Pb)-free. The device incorporates the company's patented digital diagnostics technology, for real-time monitoring of transceiver and network operating conditions.

"In the past year Finisar has released a number of new WDM transceivers. The new SFP builds on that innovation and expands our market leading transceiver portfolio in both 4-Gbit/sec and CWDM transceivers," comments Atikem Haile-Mariam, product marketing manager for WDM transceivers at Finisar. "Equipment manufacturers will use this transceiver to empower their customers' implementation of 4-Gbit/sec disaster recovery and real-time data mirroring solutions."
