October 4, 2005 Spartanburg, SC -- AFL Telecommunications , a supplier of fiber-optic products and services, announced that it has signed a reseller agreement with FlexLight Networks , to deploy that company's ITU-T G.984.x Gigabit passive optical network (GPON) technology. Under the agreement, AFL will add FlexLight's GPON Optimate platform to its portfolio of FTTX platforms.
AFL says the agreement is primarily focused on supporting FTTH and FTTB applications within the municipal and greenfield FTTH market segments, while also including the opportunity to partner with FlexLight in other markets served by AFL. AFL says this "key partnership" will allow it to become "one of the strongest one-source providers of optical FTTX solutions for the provisioning of Ethernet, voice, and video services."

FlexLight says its GPON architecture is among the only systems to provide fiber redundancy, and that it was among the first systems to comply with the ITU-T G.984.x standard. The system is managed through the company's web-based FlexManage network management tool. FlexLight says its network infrastructure offering will also now be supported by AFL's passive optical components including fiber closures, racks, connectors, optical splitters, and panels.
