Lynx launches all-optical bypass system

October 4, 2005 Calabasas Hills, CA -- Lynx Photonic Networks announced the addition of an all-optical bypass system to its LightLEADER 3000 series of plug-and-play photonic switches. The company says its LL-300x system targets carriers and service providers in storm-affected areas where frequent electrical wire breakdowns can cause power outages in one or more network nodes.

According to the company, the system allows a carrier to automatically bypass network sites experiencing power outages, thereby maintaining integrity in the rest of the network. In addition to bypassing failed network nodes, the LL-300x facilitates monitoring of links to the affected site, by establishing a remote loop-back connection, and supports advanced features such as programmable power-up delay. The system can be used in linear network topologies where no node recovery mechanism is available, as well as in self-healing rings that can recover only from single network failures.

"In light of the increased awareness of the infrastructure damage caused by natural elements, carriers and service providers are taking a harder look at beefing up their network survivability," says Lynx CEO Daniel Tal. "Our new bypass system gives them a powerful tool for meeting this mission-critical objective."

The company's LightLEADER bypass system consists of two models: the LL-3002, designed to bypass two circuits, and the LL-3004, which supports four circuits. The company says the systems are housed in a robust 1U rack-mountable enclosure, and can be ordered with or without management features.
