Tennessee utilities select Alcatel FTTH platform

October 5, 2005 Dallas, TX -- Tennessee municipal utilities Morristown Utility Commission (MUC) and Bristol Tennessee Essential Services have chosen Alcatel to provide a FTTH platform to bring "user-centric" broadband access services to the their customers. The platform includes Alcatel's 7340 FTTU passive optical network system, along with the company's 1692 Metrospan Edge CWDM system, and its 7700 OmniSwitch Gigabit Ethernet switch.

"Morristown Utility Commission is committed to preparing for the community's growth by always striving to expand and improve services to its customers," comments William G. Swann, general manager of MUC. "Broadband services are an essential ingredient to the economic development and expansion of today's communities."

"Access to essential broadband services and entertainment is an important part of economic and community development. Alcatel's superior standards- based solution will provide us with the bandwidth capacity and support for not only our initial deployment, but our expansion plans as well," adds Dr. Michael Browder, general manager of Bristol Tennessee Essential Services.

"Broadband has the power to provide great benefits for society as a whole. As more and more broadband voice, video, and data services become available, they positively impact consumers and businesses," concludes Mike Dobbs, senior vice president of Alcatel's access network activities. "Deployment of broadband fiber-optic facilities has considerable community benefit and ample capacity for future growth."
