Tennessee muni Pulaski Electric chooses Wave7 FTTP

October 5, 2005 Las Vegas, NV -- Wave7 Optics announced that Pulaski Electric System of Pulaski, Tennessee has selected the company's Trident7 Optical Access Platform. The public utility will use the company's "universal PON system" to build a FTTP network connecting homes and businesses in Giles County, Tennessee, which includes the city of Pulaski.

According to a press release, pending final Board approval, Pulaski Electric will begin construction in 2006 and will deploy the Trident7 as a GPON system. The utility will operate the network as both an ISP and a video services provider and initially plans to offer high-speed data and analog RF services with digital overlay video services. The 4000 homes and businesses in the city of Pulaski will be the first served by the network, with service to customers outside the city limits to follow.

"We are undertaking this project because our customers have asked for a competitive choice for video and Internet services and we also expect a real benefit for regional economic development," says Greg Solomon, CIO of Pulaski Electric System. "Furthermore, FTTP is a superior communication infrastructure and the Trident7 allows this technology to reach its potential. We are very comfortable with Wave7's expertise and pleased with the relatively low upfront costs of deployment and we like the comfort of knowing that we will be deploying a fully compliant standards-based GPON system featuring an integrated RF return."

"We are proud to have been selected by Pulaski Electric and have taken note of how the Pulaski City Council and the Pulaski Electric Board of Directors have expressed enthusiastic support for the project," adds Tom Tighe, CEO of Wave7 Optics.

According to the company, in addition to ITU-T G.984 Gigabit-capable PON (GPON), the Trident7 system fully supports the IEEE 802.3ah Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) standard as well as Wave7's widely deployed Ethernet Last Mile Link (LML) technology.
