Free Web conference to instruct on FOLS cost model

October 18, 2005 Arlington, VA -- The Telecommunication Industry Association's (TIA) Fiber Optics LAN Section (FOLS) will this month present a live Web conference on its recently released Premises Cost Model. The Web conference will be held on Tuesday, October 25th, 1:00-2:30 p.m. EST. There is no charge to attend.

According to FOLS, the model is a tool that can be used to help compare installed first costs for three different standards-compliant network architectures, allowing users to determine the most cost-effective choice for their application. The model features three architectures: hierarchical star, centralized cabling, and fiber-to-the-telecom enclosure (FTTE).

According to a press release, the Web conference will discuss the market changes that prompted FOLS members to develop a third generation model, review the three featured architectures, discuss the sample scenarios, and describe how to customize the model for specific applications. A Q&A session will also be held. FOLS Chair Gary Cawley and FOLS Vice Chair Dan Harman will lead the conference.

The model and supporting documentation is posted on the FOLS Web site at http://www.fols.org/resources/costmodel_reg.cfm as a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. The documents can be downloaded at no cost. Registration is required.

Register online for the conference at: http://www.fols.org/news/event.cfm?id=7.
