WilTel deploys Corrigent's packet ADM in U.S. metro core networks

December 21, 2005 San Jose, CA -- Corrigent Systems announced that its CM-100 Packet ADM (add-drop multiplexer) is being deployed by U.S. wholesale carrier WilTel Communications. WilTel says the CM-100 will form the basis for the aggregation and convergence of data and voice services over its networks.

With initial deployment at select metro areas throughout the U.S., Corrigent says its CM-100 ADMs are now carrying live traffic for WilTel as the carrier implements its strategy of converging services onto a unified transport platform. WilTel is a provider of WAN platforms for enterprise, carrier, government, and media customers. The carrier says its integrated fiber-optic network provides local-to-global connectivity that links more than 100 cities in the U.S. while reaching five continents.

Corrigent says its CM-100 Packet ADM forms the basis for converging both TDM and data services onto one transport network element; the company says this is a fundamental requirement of next-generation metropolitan area networks seeking to ensure the bandwidth and service quality required for packet-based applications. According to the company, rather than building overlay networks with separate devices for voice and data services, the CM-100 handles both services simultaneously, thereby creating a more efficient, scalable network.

According to a press release, in selecting the device, WilTel spent more than a year in analysis of next-generation transport equipment as part of the carrier's EDGE project.

"WilTel was focused on deploying a very low-cost, highly effective metro infrastructure to support Ethernet and IP services, as well as low-speed TDM services to the enterprise market place. The CM-100 is ideally suited to support these requirements," comments Scott Beaudoin, CTO of WilTel.
