LastMile eyes metro market in 2006

December 22, 2005 Dietzenbach, Germany -- German optical networking supplier LastMile AG has announced it will focus on metro carrier applications in 2006. This year, the vendor developed several new modules and its new carrier platform, WavePilot II, to provide a metro network transport system to city and regional carriers.

"Our approach for 2006 is based on successes with carriers in the past and their plans to prepare their networks for new challenges, such as triple-play services," explains LastMile CEO Eric Hoedt. "The main driver of this demand is the transparent transport of IP and SDH services. With our new carrier class transport system, WavePilot II, we meet all technical and especially cost requirements," he adds.

Several regional carriers in Europe have announced that they will invest in their transport networks in the coming year. LastMile believes it is well positioned to provide proven solutions while being flexible enough to meet customer specific requirements. Together with its partners, LastMile can offer comprehensive WDM solutions that enable carriers to benefit from the growing and merging data, voice, and video markets, say company representatives.
