Alloptic GEPON picked for New Zealand FTTH resort development

April 18, 2006 Livermore, CA -- Alloptic's Gigabit Ethernet passive optical networking (GEPON) technology has been selected for a FTTH deployment at the Huka Falls Resort in Taupo, New Zealand. The fiber-optic communications network will provide voice, data, and video services to the resort's residents.

"We are pleased to be working with John Nixon and his development partner, Patrick Fontein, on this project," comments Art Schultz, VP of worldwide sales at Alloptic. "We continue to view greenfield and resort developments as one of the leading application areas for FTTH both domestically as well as internationally. Developers are beginning to realize the importance of the communications infrastructure in the long-run value of their communities, and we see them partnering with carriers to ensure that residents have access to a true broadband infrastructure and the services that enables."

"The real dividends from deploying FTTH today have become apparent as conventional copper lines 'run out of steam' due to rapidly growing demands for bandwidth," adds John Nixon, CEO of Optical Network Engineering, Ltd. "As developers lay out new resorts and communities, they need to ensure that the communications infrastructure is capable of supporting the digital lifestyle of the residents who will inhabit the community. Alloptic has demonstrated an ability to provide communities both a robust infrastructure as well as a marketable amenity value per home. We expect the amenity value to approach $15,000 per home based on our target market."

Alloptic says that its environmentally hardened GEPON access networking platform leverages a standard ITU PON architecture while delivering a gigabit of bandwidth. With a native ability to support traditional TDM voice over an Ethernet-based platform, the company says the platform provides "worry free" telephone services while seamlessly supporting "next generation" services such as IP HDTV.
