May 16, 2006 Hong Kong -- Alcatel, through its Swedish systems integration partner Fiberdata, has inked deals to provide its Fiber-to-the-User (FTTU) equipment for four service provider networks in Sweden. The company also announced that it has successfully completed a network extension project for Taiwan's Sparq, an island-wide fixed telecom service provider.
The Swedish customers include local utilities and the cable-TV (CATV) operator Transit Broadband.
Jonas Moberg, CTO of Transit Broadband, commented, "For Transit, the combination of Fiberdata and Alcatel is a powerful partnership. Fiberdata's local expertise in broadband communications and superior local support, combined with Alcatel's market leading access solutions, is providing us with the confidence to deliver advanced services with partners that have a proven track record."
In Taiwan, Alcatel supplied its data-aware Optical Multi-Service Node (OMSN) systems to provide multi-service aggregation functionality and its 1626 Light Manager (LM) to increase network efficiency and reliability. The new equipment is managed by the Alcatel 1350 management suite.
"As the Taiwanese market is experiencing migrations in both the regulatory and technology fields, operators need to focus on their capital and operational expenditures, while guaranteeing end-user satisfaction," said Ta Fu, network group vice president at Sparq. "Through our cooperation with Alcatel, we can offer a broader range of time-to-market business and residential services, while protecting our previous investments."
