Fujikura and Nistica announce partnership

MARCH 12, 2007 -- Fujikura Ltd. (search for Fujikura) and Nistica (search for Nistica), an emerging optical subsystems supplier to telecom system OEMs, have announced a broad cooperative agreement. As part of this relationship, Fujikura will provide full production manufacturing facilities and processes for Nistica's volume delivery of Nistica's FLEDGE series of tunable filters and ROADM modules, as well as future Nistica products. In addition, Fujikura will act as a strategic partner for field, warranty, and sales channel support in selected markets. Moreover, Nistica and Fujikura will explore jointly developing products in the ROADM market based on Nistica's technology and platform.

Fujikura operates optical manufacturing facilities worldwide and supplies a wide range of optical components and subsystems to global telecom equipment vendors, ranging from optical amplifiers and modules to FTTH products.

"We are elated to have this multi-dimensional strategic relationship with Fujikura Ltd.," emphasized Nistica CEO Ashish Vengsarkar. "Fujikura's optical component facilities represent centers of excellence in high-volume, low-cost assembly and quality assurance. Its manufacturing prowess is an outstanding match to our core competencies in lean product design and high optical performance. And because of the company's independent track record of delivering subsystems to the world's most demanding OEMs, our customers and prospects are embracing this relationship with full confidence."

"Nistica's innovative devices are an excellent fit with our production capabilities in South Asian facilities," added Noboru Sugiyama, senior executive officer of Fujikura Ltd. "We are very impressed with the FLEDGE series -- it represents the best in fundamental product design and lends itself very well to our high-quality, low-cost manufacturing processes. We look forward to an expanding relationship with Nistica."

Nistica has developed what it hails as a new class of lean, flexible, and intelligent subsystems to automate the edge and metro core of service provider networks. The company's FLEDGE subsystems are designed to deliver high optical performance at up to 80% lower first costs over comparable products deployed in core networks. Nistica says its prototypes have been tested in more than 15 customer labs and are being designed into the automated edge platforms by "industry-leading OEM vendors."
