ExceLight expands XFP Portfolio with long-reach transceiver

MARCH 23, 2007 -- ExceLight Communications Inc. (search for ExceLight Communications), subsidiary of Sumitomo Electric Industries, will be demonstrating a new 10-Gbit/sec XFP (search for XFP) transceiver in its booth (#2340) at next week's OFC/NFOEC Conference in Anaheim, CA.

The SXP3101UL XFP can reliably transmit signals at distances of 120 km or more without the need for electronic dispersion compensation, say company representatives.

Using a 1550-nm Chirp Managed Directly Modulated laser (CML1), the new transceiver simplifies system design, lowers complexity, and reduces the cost of SONET OC-192/SDH STM-64 linecards, 10-Gigabit Ethernet switches and routers, and other data applications requiring signal transmission over longer distances, says ExceLight.

Visitors to the ExceLight booth will see the XFP transceiver operating over a 152-km link.
