Proximion displays ultralow-loss dispersion management module at OFC

MARCH 28, 2007 -- Subsystems and modules supplier Proximion Fiber Systems AB (search for Proximion) will be demonstrating the new 10-Gbit/sec DCM-CH dispersion compensation module (DCM) at OFC/NFOEC 2007 in Anaheim, CA, March 27-29. The DCM-CH utilizes fiber Bragg grating (FBG) technology to enable cost-effective 10-Gbit/sec networks and beyond.

Proximion claims that challenges related to the nonlinear effects that put additional constraints on system design when using dispersion compensating fiber (DCF)-based DCMs are resolved with the DCM-CH module. Low wavelength-dependent loss results in lower penalty when cascading the modules, compared with traditional channelized DCM solutions.

"The importance of cost-effective dispersion management is constantly increasing. Our new DCM-CH addresses the increasing demand for metro/regional 10-Gbit/sec dispersion compensation," says Stefan Ekman, chief executive officer at Proximion. He continues, "Our aim is to supply dispersion compensation solutions today for 10 Gbits/sec and beyond, that offer the most cost-effective network design, whilst also being prepared for our customers' development of more flexible optical networking in the future."

Proximion currently provides the established DCM-FB to a number of system suppliers for metro to long-haul applications up to 40 Gbits/sec.
