FPL FiberNet selects Infinera for Florida regional optical network

MARCH 30, 2007 -- FPL FiberNet, a subsidiary of FPL Group, has selected Infinera's DTN (search for Infinera) for its regional optical network to bring the benefits of digital optical networking to the growing Florida market, a key connection point between the North American market and the Caribbean and Latin American markets.

FPL FiberNet delivers broadband services to the major IXCs, wireless carriers, international telecom companies, ISPs, and large enterprises. The company has more than 2,500 route miles of high-count fiber deployed throughout Florida, including Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach, Orlando, Tampa, and Jacksonville, with connectivity to central offices, customer POPs, carrier hotels, and all international cable landing stations in South Florida.

FPL FiberNet says it chose Infinera because the Infinera digital optical networking system provides a scalable solution with the capability to add services and wavelengths quickly and economically. With an architecture based on photonic integration, the system is designed to be easy to install and provision without requiring a heavy investment in highly skilled engineering staff.

"The Infinera platform will provide FPL FiberNet with the ability to enhance service delivery to our customers," says FPL FiberNet director of network engineering and operations Peter Del Frate."With today's increasing demand for bandwidth, Infinera provided the ideal solution to meet our customers needs."

With 100 Gbits/sec of optical capacity on each line card, the DTN system is designed to combine high-capacity transport, fully reconfigurable switching, and GMPLS service intelligence in one platform.
