BTI Photonic Systems tapped for Mississippi 10G network

MAY 15, 2007 -- Telepak Networks, a service provider of Internet, telecommunications, and network services in Jackson, MS, has selected microWDM equipment from BTI Photonic Systems (search for BTI) to increase the capacity of existing fiber to deliver multiple streams of 10-Gigabit Ethernet traffic between major Telepak Network's sites.

Facing a relocation of its corporate office, Telepak Networks needed to upgrade its network to increase available capacity on backbone fibers. The need to accommodate projected growth and the increasing demand for bandwidth-intensive video, voice, and data service delivery, was important in Telepak's decision to deploy BTI's microWDM solution, according to the systems vendor. The Netstender 2060 platform with DWDM Mux/Demux and 10 Gigabit Wavelength Regenerator capabilities will now carry Telepak's high-bandwidth traffic on existing fiber between five major sites in Jackson, MS. For subsequent traffic increases, Telepak can add additional capacity on the same fiber ring by simply lighting up a new wavelength on the Netstender without any service interruptions, BTI says.

"We previously selected BTI for optical reach extension in earlier projects and were impressed by how reliable Netstender is and how easy it was to work with. Using the BTI microDWDM solution now provides us with the ability to easily scale out our network and support our growing customer base and rich bandwidth applications."

BTI says its Netstender combines all the optical layer functions of traditional large WDM systems into a cost-effective 1U or 2U platform to create an easy-to-manage system that is easily integrated into the network to extend reach and expand fiber capacity.
