Cable MSO selects OpVista's nWave Carrier Ethernet Transport Platform

JUNE 4, 2007 -- Choice Cable TV, a cable multiple systems operator (MSO) and high-speed Internet provider in 30 municipalities in Puerto Rico, has chosen OpVista's (search for OpVista) nWave Carrier Ethernet Transport Platform as the basis of a point-to-multipoint, 40-wavelength / 400-Gbit/sec DWDM backbone network. The new network will support growing customer demand for high-bandwidth digital video and IP- and Ethernet-based services with faster service turn-up.

"The completion of this core capacity upgrade enables Choice Cable TV to provide thousands of our subscribers in the Southern and Western areas of Puerto Rico with what we believe to be the best package of services on the island," contends Richard Zorin, vice president of technical operations at Choice Cable TV. "Using OpVista's equipment will boost our competitive posture for years to come."

OpVista says it designed the nWave CET Platform so that service providers can exponentially expand the number of available wavelengths with their existing infrastructure (fiber and electronics). As such, OpVista believes its approach represents a departure from other recently introduced CET strategies that require forklift upgrades or lack the capacity and scalability to support true next-generation services.

According to company representatives, OpVista incorporates patented and standards-compliant techniques to exponentially expand the number of available wavelengths in the network--in a completely reconfigurable (ROADM) setting--and then add higher order network intelligence to create a service-independent transport network. Such a network avoids the cost and inflexibility of multiple pre-configured, single-purpose networks that often result in complex overlay situations beset with multiple network management schemes.

"OpVista is very pleased to be working with Choice Cable TV to offer next generation services," adds John Giarolo, senior vice president of worldwide sales. "The OpVista 2000 offers carriers cost-effective bandwidth while also ensuring that future needs can be met without forklift upgrades."
