JUNE 18, 2007 -- Telco Systems (search for Telco Systems) has announced its next generation of Carrier Ethernet demarcation and service extension products, which support both Carrier Ethernet and VPLS services from the customer premises. The T-Marc 300 series product family is the first multi-port customer-located demarcation device to provide extensive management and test features for Ethernet, MPLS/VPLS, and IP networks. With purpose-built demarcation and service extension capabilities, the T-Marc 300 series is equally suited for inter-provider deployment, Telco Systems says.
The T-Marc 300 Series is designed to support managed converged services on separate customer interfaces or multiple services on a single customer interface. Because each service is isolated, providers can troubleshoot each individual service without affecting others, according to the manufacturer. Applications are prioritized over different traffic-engineered paths, and multi-level OAM is used to measure and ensure provisioned service-level agreements are met. In addition, security controls are embedded to ensure protection against denial-of-service attacks.
In making the announcement, Manu Kaycee, vice president of product strategy for Telco Systems stated, "Based on MEF specifications, the T-Marc 300 has been purpose-built to optimize capex and opex for service providers as they continue to deploy managed services. We based its technology on current IEEE, ITU-T, and IETF standards to ensure interoperability with the provider's current infrastructure, and extended those standards with the inclusion of embedded RFC 2544-based service performance analysis and standards-friendly extensions for value-added service deployment."
"By integrating standards-based test and assurance with multiple networking models, the T-Marc 300 series will be of significant value to service providers as they deliver newer Ethernet service offerings and extend their service footprint," said Glen Hunt, principal analyst of carrier infrastructure at Current Analysis. "T-Marc's intelligent demarcation and service extension capabilities will allow service providers to alleviate network load as they increasingly deliver converged services."
Networking features of the T-Marc 300 include advanced Layer 2 Networking using Telco Systems' AccessEthernet which allows total flexibility in deployment, provisioning, and delivery of Carrier Ethernet services, the company says. Physical and virtual networking capabilities provide automated address management and discovery, bandwidth profiles, advanced traffic classes, and complete control over how subscriber traffic is transported across a service provider's network, Telco Systems adds.
AccessMPLS is designed to extend a VPLS or MPLS-T domain to the network edge for expanded, integrated multi-service networking. In cases where service providers want to extend the benefits of VPLS and pseudowires to a CLE, AccessMPLS provides a purpose-built method to map into existing MPLS-based networks in a transparent manner, while utilizing a common set of rich management, provisioning, and OAM tools, the company adds.
AccessIP provides a managed, provider-provisioned CLE, allowing service providers to administer "end-to-end" IP services. Similar to VPLS, an IP-based CLE provides an "abstract" access networking model, allowing service providers to leverage networking, troubleshooting, and assured services independent of the underlying transport technology.
The T-Marc 300 product family supports the following configurations:
- Four customer-facing 10/100/1000Base-T, 100Base-FX, or 1000Base-X combo Ethernet ports (T-Marc 340)
- Eight customer-facing 10/100/1000Base-T, 100Base-FX, or 1000Base-X combo Ethernet ports (T-Marc 380)
- Two additional combo ports for redundant network interface uplinks for protected services, multi-homing, and link diversity and aggregation
- Copper or fiber Ethernet-based demarcation between the service provider and enterprise networks, multi-tenant units, and office parks.
