JULY 9, 2007 -- In an effort to increase mechanical security within the enterprise network, CommScope Inc. (search for CommScope) has developed the Uniprise Keyed Fiber LC connectors and adaptors for premises distribution networks and local area networks (LANs). The Uniprise Keyed LC products, which include special molded features on the plug and color-coded keys in the adapter, are designed to reduce the chance of unauthorized connections, say CommScope representatives.
According to the company, the system utilizes a color-coded key system that minimizes transmission problems while reducing installation time for field-mountable connectors. In order for a connection to be possible, the plug adapter colors must match the connector color. If the colors do not match, the keying features will prevent the connectors from mounting into the adapters, preventing the signal from passing between the connectors. In addition, the Keyed LC plugs will not match with standard LC adapters, only the equivalent color couplers, says the company.
The product's condensed factor design--half the size of standard connections--easily disengages in compact spaces, claims CommScope. Key features include RJ-style housing, duplex LC adapter mounts in the same footprint as a simplex SC adapter, a single-fiber ferrule, ceramic sleeves, and ten keys in distinct colors. The connectors and adaptors follow the standard Uniprise installation procedures, and all exceed industry standards, says the company.
