PPL Telecom completes dual node gateway in D.C.

JULY 9, 2007 -- PPL Telcom (search for PPL Telcom) today announced a major enhancement to its fiber-optic network with the completion of a dual node gateway. This enhanced architecture will provide an additional layer of protection to customers in the greater Washington, D.C. area, say PPL representatives.

"By completing this gateway, we give our customers even more security and reliability through one of the industry's most rock-solid networks," contends David Kelley, president of PPL Telcom. "This redundancy delivers an added layer of resiliency in and around the Nation's Capitol."

PPL Telcom says it began design work on the twin node in February to bring additional backup to its network between Baltimore, Washington, and Northern Virginia. The second downtown D.C. location provides more power and security to the network.

More upgrades are planned for the PPL Telcom network over the next several months, including:
• The installation of a dual node gateway, similar to the Washington project, slated for completion in the Philadelphia metro area by the end of July, 2007; and
• The fall 2007 expansion of PPL Telcom's Optical Wavelength Service between D.C. and New York City, which will add 400 Gbits/sec of capacity as an alternative to dark fiber and high-bandwidth carrier services.

"We are committed to delivering PPL Telcom's Customized Solutions to our customers and improving our network," notes Kelley. "These upgrades further enhance our position in the marketplace as a provider of choice."
