Mercury Development partners with Connexion Technologies on FTTH

JULY 19, 2007 -- Residential community builder, Mercury Development, is teaming up with Connexion Technologies (search for Connexion Technologies), a fiber-optic amenity company, to bring fiber-to-the-home (search for FTTH) technology to North Carolina homeowners. Connexion will design, build, install, and manage the entire FTTH infrastructure for Mercury Development's Wendell Falls, using its capital.

"Wendell Falls will be one of the first communities near Raleigh with a fiber distribution network throughout the entire development," reports Glen Lang, CEO of Connexion Technologies. "In the next 20 years, most new developments will move to fiber. By partnering with us, Mercury Development is ensuring that its Wendell Falls residents get the future of technology."

An FTTH infrastructure is reported to increase property value from $5,000 to $10,000, say Connexion representatives. A single piece of fiber can handle telephone, Internet, television, and security needs. Fiber-optic wiring is more reliable and faster than traditional wiring and has enough bandwidth to accommodate emerging technologies as they come to market. Buyers are starting to demand fiber-optic technology because it is the superior method for delivering entertainment and communication services, the companies report.

"We wanted to bring 21st-century technology to our homebuyers, so we knew we wanted FTTH and we investigated a number of companies," recalls Greg Ferguson, Mercury Development partner. "Connexion's close proximity wasn't the determining factor. [Both companies are located in North Carolina.] The level of knowledge and experience that Connexion possessed was far superior to others."

Wendell Falls, located just outside of Raleigh, will have 4,000 homes and will be one of the largest master-planned communities in the Triangle area, according to Mercury Development. Along with its fiber-optic amenity, Wendell Falls will offer its own elementary school and a 125-acre county park. It is environmentally friendly and only 12 minutes from downtown Raleigh. Future plans include ball fields, expansive useable open space, miles of walking and fitness trails, and a major employment center.

First homes should be delivered by the end of 2008.
