JULY 24, 2007 -- Sterlite Optical Technologies Ltd. (search for Sterlite Optical Technologies), India's only global provider and integrated manufacturer of optical fiber, yesterday announced its successful implementation of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd.'s (MTNL) MPLS core network in New Delhi.
With the completion of this network, MTNL will be able to provide a unified platform to launch of new services, including 3G, IPTV, and content networks. This network also will enable MTNL to provide VPN and transparent LAN services to corporate customers in Delhi.
During the official launch of the network, Mr. R S P Sinha, CMD -- MTNL called the project "a milestone" and noted that the new technology would not only ensure consistent performance, but also promise to bring down cost and increase reliability and scalability, which is comparatively more complex and costly in traditional networks.
He added that MPLS technology provides lower latency, easy provisioning, and higher security and bandwidth. It is the first service of its kind in the country for providing VPN networks within a city, and Sinha reported that the service would be launched shortly in Mumbai.
"Our association with MTNL goes back over two decades with Sterlite's supply of our Fiber Optic Cables & Copper Telecom Cables," added Dr. Anand Agarwal, CEO and director of Sterlite Optical Technologies.
