Master Bond debuts rapid curing adhesive

JULY 26, 2007 -- Master Bond (search for Master Bond) today introduced a transparent, low viscosity, fast-curing adhesive, sealant, and coating, dubbed EP30-4.

Master Bond recommends the EP30-4 epoxy for applications requiring rapid cure without adding external heat. When EP30-4 is spread in films as thin as 0.025-in, it will become tack-free in as little as 30 minutes, say company representatives, making it ideal for use as a conformal coating where heating the components or substrate is not possible.

Another unique property is the excellent optical clarity of the system, says Master Bond. Offering superb spectral transmission in thin sections and superior non-yellowing properties, it is ideally suited for use in fiber-optic bonding applications.

The two-component EP30-4 epoxy produces high strength, rigid bonds with tensile strength greater than 10,500 psi and bond shear strength exceeding 2000 psi. Efficient to process, it has a working life of 8-10 minutes and can easily be applied by spraying or flow coating, says the company. EP30-4 bonds are remarkably resistant to chemicals, including water, oil, and most organic solvents over a temperature range of -50 ° C to more than 120 ° C (-60 ° F to 250 ° F). Adhesion to both similar and dissimilar materials, including metals, glass, ceramics, wood, vulcanized rubbers, and many plastics is excellent, company representatives claim.

Master Bond EP30-4's electrical insulation properties include a volume resistivity greater than 1016ohm-cm, a dielectric constant and dissipation factor respectively of 4.3 and 0.022 at 100 hertz. This, together with its low shrinkage, makes it an excellent potting epoxy for small castings, says the company.

Master Bond Polymer Adhesive EP30-4 is available in premixed bi-packs and cartridge/gun packaging for convenient dispensing as well as in pint, quart, gallon, and five-gallon containers.
