OE Solutions intros supervisory channel CWDM SFP transceivers

JULY 26, 2007 -- OE Solutions Co Ltd. (search for OE Solutions), supplier of high performance optoelectronic transceivers for wireless and wireline optical communications, today announced a new family of supervisory channel CWDM (search for CWDM) SFP Transceivers (search for SFP transceiver) with extended reach for Erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA)-based long haul and metro systems applications.

According to the company, its family of supervisory channel CWDM SFP transceivers is based on uncooled CWDM distributed feedback (DFB) lasers and OE Solutions' proprietary, high sensitivity receiver technology. 

Supervisory channel transceivers offer better than 42-dB link budget at OC3/STM-1 (155 Mbits/sec) or Fast Ethernet rate (125 Mbits/sec), say company representatives. Furthermore, at 2-Mbit/sec data rate (with CMI code), it offers better than 57-dB link budget, allowing the supervisory signal to transmit beyond 250 km without an optical repeater or beyond 300 km in Raman amplifier-based long-haul transmission systems, claims OE Solutions.

Products are available in any CWDM wavelength grid and can be tailored to customer specific data rates. The entire family conforms to the SFP Multi-Source Agreement (MSA) and is compliant with the European Parliament's restriction on the use of certain hazardous substances directive (search for RoHS).

"The supervisory channels in the long-haul and metro transport equipment require very long reach capability," explains Dr. MoonSoo Park, CTO and head of engineering at OE Solutions. "Historically, the equipment manufacturers, although very cumbersome and time consuming, had to design the supervisory channel function onto their line card using discrete components in order to achieve very high receiver sensitivity. This, in turn, enabled the supervisory signal to extend its reach beyond what conventional transceivers can achieve. Of course, with such an approach, the equipment manufacturer often sacrifices cost, flexibility, power consumption, and space on their line card," he concedes. "Our supervisory channel SFP transceiver significantly eases such inconveniences by offering a hot pluggable transceiver solution and, thus, allows the metro or long haul equipment manufacturer to focus on their main system design."
 
The company will be exhibiting its entire suit of supervisory channel CWDM SFP transceivers at the upcoming ECOC Conference to be held in Berlin, Germany, on September 17-19, 2007.
