Mintera launches new 50-GHz filter tolerant modulation format

JULY 30, 2007 -- Mintera Corp. (search for Mintera), developer of high bit-rate optical transport systems, today announced a new addition to its product family, the TP40GA Adaptive-DPSK (search for DPSK) line card.

Mintera says its patent-pending Partial-DPSK (PDPSK) modulation format, which was demonstrated earlier this year at OFC/NFOEC 2007, enables ultra long-haul 40-Gbit/sec transmission through 50-GHz filters and in-line reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexers (ROADMs).

The underlying technology of PDPSK has been enhanced in the commercial launch of the MI 40000XS TP40GA Adaptive-DPSK line card to enable optimal transmission performance over any in-line optical filtering conditions, say company representatives. Furthermore, Mintera says its Adaptive-DPSK is fully compatible with its built-in Adaptive Dispersion Compensation technology.

"The combination of Adaptive-DPSK and Adaptive Dispersion Compensation provides a 40-Gbit/sec DWDM solution with automatic turn-up and in-service self-optimization suitable for deployment in the most demanding network configurations," contends Terry Unter, CEO of Mintera. "The ability to maximize reach-performance through lightly filtered or strongly filtered optical transmission paths with a single product generates tremendous value for our growing customer base."

The company reports that its Adaptive-DPSK line card has been tested successfully at many Tier 1 carrier facilities around the world and the majority of DWDM system suppliers.

"The 40-Gbit/sec WDM market is growing quickly with deployments underway now and many more expected in the next 12 to 36 months," notes Michael Howard, principal analyst at Infonetics Research. "Mintera's new TP40GA Adaptive-DPSK product appears positioned to be a significant player in these deployments, given its capabilities of ultra-long haul reach and tight filter tolerance."
