AUGUST 7, 2007 -- Charys Holding Company Inc. today announced that its wholly owned subsidiary Viasys Services Inc. has been named as the prime contractor for a large communication service provider following the signing of a bill curbing local regulation of cable television in Florida.
On May 18, 2007, Florida Governor Charlie Crist signed Bill 529, prohibiting counties and municipalities from negotiating terms and conditions relating to cable and video services, deleting county and municipality authorization to award cable service franchises, and providing cable service providers eligibility for state-issued franchises. As a direct result of this legislation, several services providers announced plans to begin construction of new fiber-optic networks in Florida in order to deliver combined cable television, telephone, and Internet services.
With Florida Department of State application approval on July 11, 2007, Viasys has been selected as the prime contractor for fiber-optic construction for the counties of Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Manatee, and Sarasota. This work, which began on July 5, 2007, will continue through the rest of this year and into 2008.
