Dura-Line debuts FuturePath with MicroDucts

DECEMBER 17, 2007 -- Dura-Line Corp. (search for Dura-Line) has unveiled its FuturePath product, which provides users with the ability to install pre-configured MicroDucts and additional fiber cables as demands on a network grows.

MicroDucts are small HDPE ducts, ranging in size from 5 mm to 16 mm (OD) and are specifically designed to be installed in new 3/4-in to 2-in (19.05-mm to 58.8-mm) or existing 1-in to 2-in (25.4-mm to 58.8-mm) ducts with an existing cable.

FuturePath allows MicroDucts to be pre-packaged into one easy-to-install bundle, says the company. This lowers the cost of deployment, while placing the largest number of MicroDucts into the smallest space possible.

Utilizing the same space as a 1-1/4-inch duct, FuturePath provides seven pathways for fiber-optic cables and the opportunity to defer additional costs of extra fiber until the need is present, say Dura-Line representatives. FuturePath is deployed like a standard duct, using directional drilling, open trenching, plowing, underground placing, and aerial deployments.

FuturePath is available in different configurations, utilizing 5-mm to 16-mm MicroDucts. Different sizes and quantities of MicroDucts can even be used within FuturePath to meet network design requirements. For example, FuturePath is available with two or up to 19 MicroDucts to meet the needs of the network and space requirements.

"No two installations are the same, but the versatility and the ability to customize the FuturePath allow end users' specific needs to be met," contends Tim Grimsley, vice president, telecom and CATV, sales and marketing, Dura-Line.
