GigOptix makes its mark in Asia

FEBRUARY 26, 2008 -- GigOptix (search for GigOptix) has announced that it has completed "a major step" in the expansion of its activities in Asia. The company has entered into new agreements with key local distributors, sale representatives, and business development consultants across Japan, China, Korea, and Taiwan. GigOptix's aim with this expanded network is to accelerate the penetration of its optical polarization-mode dispersion ICs into new customers and markets beyond communications, such as consumer electronics.

In Japan, GigOptix has entered into contracts with two leading Japanese distributors: High-Tech Corp. and Hikari Inc., both located in Tokyo. GigOptix has also entered into a partnership with Leaf Consulting, a consumer electronics consulting company headed by Shinji Takada, who has experience in assisting U.S. companies in negotiating and cooperating with major Japanese corporations.

In the Chinese market, GigOptix has partnered with Pangaea (H.K.) Ltd. Pangaea has created a strong network and broad customer base within the country, according to GigOptix. "The synergy of the two companies would strengthen the market force and thus facilitate a high penetration of GigOptix's product lines into the China market," says Richard Fung, president and chief executive officer of Pangaea.

In both Korea and Taiwan, GigOptix has partnered with distributors Progate Technology and Litrax Technology Co. respectively.
