FPL FiberNet deploys Alcatel-Lucent gear

MARCH 25, 2008 -- FPL FiberNet, a subsidiary of FPL Group, Inc., has selected and deployed Alcatel-Lucent's (search for Alcatel-Lucent) IP/Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) platforms in its packet-based network to deliver Ethernet and IP services. FPL FiberNet currently serves telecommunication companies, wireless carriers, Internet service providers, and enterprise and government customers in Florida through a geographically diverse and protected fiber-optic network.

"The ability to cost effectively deliver Metro Ethernet services as well as the efficient aggregation of multi-service traffic over an all-IP network is critical to our ability to meet our customers' demand for advanced data services," said Carmen Perez, FPL FiberNet president. "By enabling high-performance, multi-service switching throughout our network, Alcatel-Lucent's solution -- coupled with its experience in IP network transformation -- gives us a significant advantage as we move to the next phase of the evolution of our network."

Alcatel-Lucent is deploying its IP/MPLS portfolio, spanning the Alcatel-Lucent 7750 Service Router, Alcatel-Lucent 7450 Ethernet Service Switch, Alcatel-Lucent 7250 Service Access Switch, and Alcatel-Lucent 5620 Service Aware Manager.

FPL FiberNet's Metro Ethernet services are based on Alcatel-Lucent's optical networking platforms, including the Alcatel-Lucent 1665 DMX and 1665 DMXtend, next-generation multiplexers as well as its 1675 LambdaUnite MultiService Switch.

Alcatel-Lucent also is providing installation, deployment, consulting, network integration and professional services.
