Tellabs discontinues current GPON activities focused on Verizon

APRIL 2, 2008 -- Tellabs (search for Tellabs) today announced that it will
discontinue current GPON activities focused on Verizon.

When contacted via email by Lightwave Magazine, company representatives confirmed they had studied the situation, and "we did not find the deal economical," they wrote in an emailed response. "But for competitive reasons, we cannot share further details."

Tellabs says it will continue to be a multi-product and services supplier to Verizon. This includes fulfillment of its contracts with the RBOC for BPON technology, a company spokesperson confirmed. The company also confirms that it will continue its current access strategy, including BPON and GPON.
