Turin Networks' Traverse 10-GbE modules receive MEF certification

JUNE 4, 2008 -- Turin Networks Inc. (search for Turin Networks), provider of wireless backhaul, carrier Ethernet, and converged services for wireline and wireless network operators, today announced that the 10-Gigabit Ethernet switching and transport modules for the company's flagship Traverse Multiservice Transport Switch have attained Carrier Ethernet certifications from the Metro Ethernet Forum (search for MEF).

By successfully achieving MEF 9 and MEF 14 certification for all three service types defined by the MEF, Turin's Traverse is the industry's only platform to support the full array of certified MEF-compliant Carrier Ethernet services with scalability from 1 Mbit/sec to 10 Gigabit Ethernet, in addition to traditional SONET/SDH and PDH transport and switching with scalability from DS1/E1 up to 10-Gbit/sec OC-192/STM-64, claim company representatives.

"Our service provider customers made it clear that MEF Carrier Ethernet certification was an essential requirement for them," reports Bruce Miller, CTO and vice president of engineering for Turin Networks. "The scalability and versatility that we've built into our Traverse platform enabled us to meet this requirement and to further enhance our iConnect for Carrier Ethernet solutions to facilitate the transition from circuit-based to a more packet-optimized infrastructure."

MEF certification is critical as service providers seek to create networks that provide their subscribers with ubiquitous and highly reliable Carrier Ethernet services worldwide.

Turin's Traverse platform was tested by Iometrix in accordance with the MEF's "Test Plan for Ethernet Services at the UNI." The Traverse 10-Gigabit Ethernet Switching and Transport Modules received full MEF 9 Service certification for conformance with all three service types defined by the MEF: Ethernet Private Line (E-Line), Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL), and Ethernet LAN (E-LAN), as well as MEF 14 Traffic Management conformance, which is critical for delivering differentiable service offerings with unique service level agreements.

Turin says its iConnect for Carrier Ethernet enables service providers to migrate to a packet-optimized network infrastructure that supports the delivery of the complete range of MEF-defined E-Line (point-to-point), E-LAN (multipoint-to-multipoint), and E-Tree (point-to-multipoint) Carrier Ethernet services over copper and fiber access network facilities. iConnect for Carrier Ethernet incorporates Turin's flagship Traverse product family for service aggregation and transport in central offices, service hubs, headends, and other high capacity sites, as well as the TraverseEdge product family for metro access applications.
