Matrix Networks, Tyco Telecom complete Matrix Cable System

AUGUST 14, 2008 -- Matrix Networks Pte Ltd. and P.T. NAP Info Lintas Nusa, together with the supplier, Tyco Telecommunications (search for Tyco), a business unit of Tyco Electronics, say they have achieved the status of "Ready for Provisional Acceptance" (RFPA) under the terms of a multi-million dollar turnkey contract for the Matrix Cable System. The 1,000-km undersea fiber-optic system, completed on schedule, will provide high-bandwidth connectivity to the Indonesian market.

"Achieving the status of RFPA is a significant step toward facilitating direct communication between Indonesia, Singapore, and the rest of the world," said Jim Schweigert, general manager of Matrix Networks. "Through our alliance with Tyco Telecommunications, we are now able to provide Indonesia and the surrounding areas with a state-of-the-art system. We are extremely pleased with the status of the project and look forward to activating the system for international use."

"The completion of the Matrix Cable system marks the elimination of the digital divide in Indonesia by providing the region with dependable, affordable Internet communications," explained Gunawan Wicaksono, director of PT NAP Info Lintas Nusa. "Our residential and business customers alike will now be able to realize the benefits of enhanced Internet speed and access to accommodate their personal and professional communications needs."

The initial implementation of the network includes a four-fiber pair trunk between Singapore and Jakarta, with a branch to Batam in the Riau Islands Province. Between Singapore and Jakarta, the system's capacity is nearly 2.6 Tbits/sec, with an additional four-fiber pairs between Singapore and Batam providing another 2.6 Tbits/sec of capacity. The system's use of DWDM will support the transmission of sixty-four 10-Gbit/sec wavelengths on each fiber pair.

"This state-of-the-art infrastructure provides Matrix Networks' customers with a much-needed capacity and bandwidth upgrade, essentially facilitating global communications," said Rob Munier, managing director for global solutions at Tyco Telecommunications. "The system, which is comprised of the newest and most advanced generation of subsea equipment, will provide Indonesia and the surrounding areas with unsurpassed efficiency and reliability."
