Picolight intros laser and detector components
4 August 2003 Boulder, CO Lightwave -- Following its announcement July 25 that it would enter the subcomponent supply market, Picolight Inc. has debuted its OEngine laser and detector component product lines. The laser and detector components are aimed at embedded systems and digital optical transceivers for datacom and access applications.

Maxim Integrated Products launches 2.7-Gbit/sec transimpedance amplifiers for digital diagnostic SFP modules
4 August 2003 Sunnyvale, CA Lightwave--Maxim Integrated Products is introducing the MAX3744/MAX3745 3.3V, 2.7-Gbit/sec transimpedance amplifiers (TIAs). When used with the MAX3748A limiting amplifier, the MAX3744 TIA enables receive-power monitoring. The MAX3744 TIA, the MAX3748 limiting amplifier, and the MAX3735/MAX3740 laser drivers form a chipset for SONET, Ethernet, and Fibre Channel SFP digital diagnostic modules.

Aegis Semiconductor ships new optical channel monitor
31 July 2003 Woburn, MA Lightwave -- Optical components and subsystems manufacturer Aegis Semiconductor has begun commercial shipments of its first product--the mosquito Optical Channel Monitor (OCM). Based on the company's Active Thin Films technology platform, the mosquito OCM delivers the performance of traditional OCMs at a significantly smaller size and lower price, say company representatives.

3M's Single-Mode OGI Multi-Fiber System passes Telcordia GR-1453-CORE standard
30 July 2003 Austin, TX Lightwave -- 3M's Electronic and Interconnect Solutions Division has announced that its Single-Mode Optical Gateway Interface (OGI) Multi-Fiber System, first released in January 2003, recently passed the Telcordia GR-1453 CORE standard for singlemode multi-fiber connector assemblies.

Zarlink delivers digital timing chip for OC-3 line cards, jitter performance 30% better than competing products
29 July 2003 Ottawa, Canada Lightwave--Zarlink Semiconductor today expanded its portfolio of timing devices for optical networking equipment with the ZL 30410 digital PLL (phase-locked loop), a full-featured timing chip with the industry's lowest jitter, for access line cards operating at OC-3 rates.

Maxim Integrated Products releases integrated 2:1 multiplexer and 1:2 demultiplexer with loopback
28 July 2003 Sunnyvale, CA Lightwave--Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX9394/MAX9395 integrated 2:1 multiplexer and 1:2 demultiplexer with loopback. The MAX9394 multiplexer accepts LVDS, HSTL, and other GND-referenced input signals. The MAX9395 demultiplexer receives LVPECL, CML, and other Vcc-referenced differential input signals.

Picolight launches new family of transmit and receive sub-components
28 July 2003 Boulder, CO Lightwave--Picolight Inc., a provider of fiber-optic transceivers for enterprise, storage-area and metro/access networks, announced that the company will begin offering a family of transmit and receive optical sub-components called OEngines. The OEngine product family includes TO-can packaged vertical cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) and detectors as well as LC sleeve assemblies.

25 July 2003 Santa Clara, CA Lightwave -- Dowslake Microsystems has announced the general availability of the SmartGAIN variable-gain optical amplifier, designed for central office applications.

Transmode unveils Universal Aggregator family
24 July 2003 Stockholm Lightwave -- Transmode Systems AB, supplier of transmission systems for fiber-optic networks, has launched the Universal Aggregator family, a modular set of plug-in units for its System 1100 CWDM platform. The aggregators feature universal protocol support, allowing up to eight client channels, each of which can be different protocols, to be aggregated on to a single wavelength.

New 980-nm component tester debuts
23 July 2003 Boulder, CO Lightwave -- dBm Optics Inc. has introduced its Model 2004/3112 980-nm Component Spectrum Analyzer. This system characterizes devices from 940-1000 nm. Typical components in this wavelength range include fiber Bragg gratings, splitters, polarization beam combiners, and band separators.
