di/dt introduces first 24V input eighth-brick DC/DC converter
22 July 2003 Carlsbad, CA Lightwave--di/dt, a Power-One company, is launching the industry's first 24V input eighth-brick DC/DC converter, the SemiQ. The SQ24 is in a package size that is only 60% the area of the industry-standard quarter-brick and delivers up to 15A of output current with minimal or no derating at elevated temperatures and low airflow.

New slimline chassis and variable-rate transponder for Fujitsu FLASHWAVE 7420 increase service options
21 July 2003 Richardson, TX Lightwave -- Fujitsu Network Communications Inc., today announced new enhancements for its FLASHWAVE 7420 managed wavelength services platform. These enhancements, which include a new slimline chassis and variable-rate transponder, increase service provisioning options for metro carriers and are available immediately.

Palomar Technologies intros new wire bonder
18 July 2003 Vista, CA Lightwave -- Palomar Technologies has introduced the Model 8000 high-speed thermosonic ball-and-stitch wire bonder. With a 12x6-inch (300x150 mm) X-Y bond area, it can handle large hybrids, multichip modules, or several smaller devices at one time. The bonder is capable of placing eight wires per second with a table repeatability of better than ± 5 microns.

CIENA releases ON-Designer software for automated network design, validation and turn-up
17 July 2003 Linthicum, MD Lightwave -- CIENA Corp. has announced the availability of LightWorks ON-Designer, a comprehensive suite of advanced Java-based design tools that automate planning, design, simulation, validation, and turn-up of end-to-end networks. This will result in improved time-to-revenue for new services and enhanced operational cost savings for service providers, say company representatives.

Multiplex unveils 21-pin EML
17 July 2003 South Plainfield, NJ Lightwave -- Multiplex Inc. recently introduced the MTX510EW "21-type," an electro-absorption modulated laser (EML) module in a 21-pin butterfly package. It uses the company's high-performance EML platform operating at 1550 nm, where fiber loss is at a minimum.

New NEC 10-GbE card increases network efficiency

(NEC) recently unveiled the BlueFire 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10-GbE) card, which enables the company's BlueFire 740 and 750 LAN backbone switches to consolidate network capacity. Dominion Lasercom Inc. releases next-generation FSO technology
15 July 2003 Bryan, TX Lightwave--Dominion Lasercom Inc.(DLI), is launching its next-generation of free-space optics (FSO) products this month. The new hardware, an extension of the company's Digital Audio Video infrared Data (DAViD) product line, accommodates both IP and TDMA interfaces from 10 Mbits/sec to Gigabit Ethernet as well as from multiple DS-1 circuits to OC-3 speeds.

OPTICOMM boosts performance for RGB with single-fiber solution
14 July 2003 San Diego, CA Lightwave-- OPTICOMM Corp., a supplier of fiber-optic transmitter and receiver systems, introduced the RGB-4000 for high-resolution digital video. Created for plasma screens, projectors, theaters and stadiums, the RGB-4000 system combines VGA H/V video, audio, and data over one fiber, providing high-resolution video up to 1600x1200 and eliminating the need for multiple fiber handling.

Omron unveils tiny, low-cost devices for FTTH applications
10 July 2003 Tokyo Lightwave -- Fiber-to-the-home technology is eagerly anticipated, but a tremendous cost reduction in network devices is necessary to realize affordable service, say representatives from Omron Corp. The company has responded to this need with products that integrate proprietary micro lens array and actuator technologies and are designed specifically for access networks, metro networks, and interconnection.
