Transition Networks introduces 10/100/1000 copper to fiber converter
1 May 2003 Las Vegas, NV Lightwave -- Transition Networks announced this week at Networld + Interop the introduction of a 10/100/1000 media converter that converts the electrical signal of a 10/100/1000 Ethernet signal from copper to fiber, providing a low-cost integration option for network managers who want to migrate from 10/100 networks to Gigabit Ethernet.

SaRonix unveils subminiature crystal clock oscillator

Broadcom launches variable-rate transceiver at Networld + Interop
28 April 2003 Las Vegas Lightwave--At Networld + Interop 2003, Broadcom, a provider of silicon technologies enabling broadband communications, introduced the BCM8228 VariRate transceiver for communications and storage area networking applications. With the new transceiver, system OEMs can develop single linecards that feature a host of transmission protocols and speeds from the same physical link.

Avvio Networks announces a 640-km DWDM laser and new EDFA
25 April 2003 Bedford, MA Lightwave -- Avvio Networks has debuted a 640-km DWDM EML laser addition to its A1010 options. The company also introduced its A1070 EDFA, a variable gain line amplifier with up to 25 dB of gain and automatic transient suppression.

Fujitsu Microelectronics America releases SPI-4 macro
24 April 2003 Sunnyvale, CA Lightwave --Fujitsu Microelectronics America introduced a System Packet Interface Level-4 (SPI-4) I/O macro, providing point-to-point connectivity between physical layer and link layer devices in network designs.

Sycamore upgrades the SN 16000 Intelligent Optical Switch with GMPLS and OIF UNI 1.0
24 April 2003 Chelmsford, MA Lightwave - Sycamore Networks announced the availability of the Internet Engineering Task Force's (IETF) emerging Generalized Multi- Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) protocols and the Optical Internetworking Forum's (OIF) User-to-Network Interface (UNI) 1.0 for the SN 16000 intelligent optical switch. Sycamore is the first company to announce the availability of both GMPLS and UNI 1.0 on its intelligent optical switches, according to the company.
