Finisar demonstrates 40-km XFP optical transceiver March 24, 2003--Finisar Corp. is demonstrating its new 40-km XFP 10-Gbit/sec optical transceivers at this week's OFC 2003 show in Atlanta. The extended reach XFP transceivers come in two versions: One uses a 1310-nm DFB laser and the other a cooled 1550-nm EML. The latter version complies with 40-km 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10GBASE-ER/EW per IEEE 802.3ae) and SONET OC-192 IR-2, and provides a platform to support 100-GHz-spacing DWDM.
Nufern unveils new specialty fibers March 24, 2003--Nufern, independent manufacturer of application-specific optical fiber, today unveiled several new fibers, including an 80-micron version of its bend-insensitive 1550-nm select cut-off product family and two new Erbium-doped fibers for use in L-band amplifiers and ASE applications
Koncent introduces mini-size power monitor March 24, 2003--Fiber-optic component supplier Koncent Communication Inc. has released its mini size power monitor, the newest addition to its power reconfiguration series.
Calmar Optcom announces fiber laser for 40-Gbit/sec testing March 24, 2003--Calmar Optcom's new laser, the PSL-40, was developed in response to a renewed interest from researchers for test equipment designed for the emerging 40-Gbit/sec SONET/STM transmission speed.
Alcatel Optronics launches two 10-Gbit/sec 300-pin DWDM transponders March 21, 2003--Alcatel Optronics has extended its 300-pin transponder family with two new versions of the Alcatel 1964 TRX, dedicated to SONET/SDH metro and long-haul 10-Gbit/sec DWDM markets. The first version integrates an electro-absorption-integrated laser modulator (EA-ILM) allowing a reach of 80 to 800 km. The second version reaches 800 to 3,000 km.
JDS Uniphase introduces instrumentation for applications at 850 nm and up to 10 Gbits/sec March 21, 2003--JDS Uniphase Corp. has announced a suite of test and measurement instruments for manufacturers of fiber-optic components that operate at 850-nm wavelengths and at data rates of up to 10 Gbits/sec. With these new modules, JDS Uniphase's Multiple Application Platform (MAP) now provides a full range of test capabilities for either multimode or singlemode at 850-, 1310-, and 1550-nm wavelengths, says the company.
Clarendon Photonics introduces world's first 8 λ ROADM and 4 λ ROADM+VOA mask sets March 20, 2003--Clarendon Photonics Inc., developer of waveguide-based integrated DWDM components, today announced the completion of mask layouts for what it claims is the world's first monolithic 8 λ ROADM as well as the first single-chip 4 λ ROADM+VOA.
Jiangsu Fasten Photonics announces launch of optical fiber and optical fiber preform March 20, 2003--Jiangyin, China-based Jiangsu Fasten Photonics Co. Ltd. announced today the development of new optical fiber and optical fiber preform products.
OEpic offers 1310-nm 10-Gbit/sec optical front-end solution for low cost next- generation transceivers March 19, 2003--OEpic Inc. introduced today a 10-Gbit/sec 1310-nm opto-electronic front-end transmitter incorporating flex board interconnection technology (TO-Flex) for low cost, next-generation 10-Gbit/sec optical transceivers, such as XENPAK, X2, XPAK and XFP.
Phosistor's new super lens reduces optical packaging costs March 19, 2003--Startup Phosistor Technologies Inc., developer of integratable photonics, has developed what it claims is the world's smallest, highest performance, and lowest cost super lens that will drastically reduce the cost of packaging of both optical active and passive devices.
